Sunday is gone.
To approach walking as an occupation. Walking Monday til Saturday, with one day to stop and collect oneself. Is this fair? A lot of pilgrims walk every day - with some shorter ones thrown in (technically not proper walking, I think, if it's over by noon). It's not a race; who am I to judge? Even though I demanded better of myself today ... Guilt for some perceived fault.
Drinking tea. I've six eggs(boiled), Baguette, fig biscuits, lemon water. I bought Penne pasta to eat tonight, with the remainder of the pesto I carried for several days. I've one bullet-like avocado ... It's not getting ripe: picked too early. Avocado usually breaks down soon. It's food.
The Avocado was ripe! Unusually thick skin. Woody. That would have hurt falling on an unsuspecting perambulator. So two eggs, one avocado, some pesto makes a nice sandwich filler. A snack. Had enough at déjeuner. Second day of steak. Set menu - €17. Same steak as last night in a simpler set up.
The sun is scorching at 6. This is the main challenge, now without a hat. Afternoon walking is difficult ... transit is not until 2pm. That's the crux of the issue. It's not as late as the clock says it is. I'm sweating the badness out: three glasses of vino tinto with bœuf and got fruit for breakfast. Boulangerie is open at 6:30 tomorrow. This is all very logistical.
Did I kill off the vibe? No pilgrims. On my own totally for several days perhaps. But that was what I had expected really. This route is for solitude.
It's clouding over. Perhaps more rain cometh. That will make sleeping a little simpler, excusing the mosquitoes. Being born and brought up where mosquitoes prevail and disease is a killer; I think I prefer wet, cold, predictable Blighty?
Tomorrow can't come soon enough. Give me a road, track, path and I will be gone. The roads outside of the Gîte sound quieter as the traffic get lighter. France prepares for the second week of school since summer and we're heading to Autumn. 33°C forecast on Wednesday ... That must be the end of the summer of 2018 surely? What bounty with I scrump on the way tomorrow? Cabernet Sauvignon was a pleasant grape to pilfer, except for the thick skins ... Rich in tannins I'm sure!
