Still Ill

17:26. 05/02/2011 Jacob's Ladder, Falmouth What a solemn day. I got out of the Hostel/Pub around 3pm after a well needed bacon and tomato (BLT minus Lettuce) @ £3.95. I went to bed just after last orders. Spoke to Spencer who had just got back from Isle of Skye sister pub(apparently there are 2). I reckon I had 3 pints of Rattler in Nancy's while watching Wales lose graciously to England in the 6 nations opener(first time for me to care so much) had a laugh with some RFA and then moved to hunt some grub(chicken shish and red cabbage). Back at the Ladder and a few pints of Grandma's Weapon Grade ginger beer. Got into a slight argument about the actual number of ' Cinque ' ports. Agreed to disagree and he said he wouldn't completely disbelieve me until he'd looked into the matter. Spoke to a girl, sister of Elle, who complained she recently broke up with her bf because his wener was just 'too' small! Retired and slept very well, but then woke up n...

Ploughing the fields of England

From Leeds to Exeter leaving the railway station at a merry 11:11am cross country. Via, by alternative path, Conisborough and Rotherham(and how that town looked changed) and yet as we passed Swinton and Kilnhurst: that mucky canal was still dirty. I sat facing forward, but not in my reserved seat. No matter how many times I book a train ticket I am yet to be on the Table seat! I don't know how one manages this task? I sat opposite a girl heading the whole distance to Plymouth. I switched on my laptop to while away the hours: first ' The Mouse that Roared ' and then most satisfyingly ' ANZACS ' then the temperature rises. I decide to venture to get me a coffee from the concession on most trains only to find this company did away with that small allowance 2 years ago! A train travelling from Edinburgh to Plymouth has no refreshments car, What! So poxy 'Starbucks' brand coffee was bought from the trolley service. The only option of a sandwich for Vegi was Egg M...

Today was a successful Vegetarian day in Millie's Fresh and Organic . I guess I need to be in the mode of taking lush technicolor images to highlight the exciting array of reds, yellows, greens: the multicolour of veg. However I made a Roasted Red Pepper and Humus filled Foccacia, 2 varieties of Fritatta, TVP(soy mince) Bolognaise and a lush Potato, Courgette, Chickpea and Roquefort soup... This afternoon I took inspiration from some juicy Navel oranges mum brought me from Kirkgate Market and created a lusty Jaffa Cake! Ingredients: 300g 55% Dark Chocolate, 50g Ground Almonds, 125g Ground Roasted Hazelnuts, 250ml Double cream, the juice and zest of a Navel orange, 8 separated eggs, 300g organic SR flour and 250g unsalted butter. Thursday I will fill with orange buttercream I think!

It's time to cart myself to Leeds for the trial at Radisson Blu. Manoj wants me earlier at 12noon. Cool, but day 10 of a blocked ear. Only day one of treatment from the doctor. I do need this clearing up prior to a full time job as it is really impairing my confidence and ability to concentrate. For instance I can't hear any instruction well and usually have to ask twice. 10:19 bus to Leeds. Did the trial @ the Radisson and it makes me wonder what i am doing. I'm too questioning for a chef. I need to do it myself and cook a what I believe in. All they try to do is cater to whims in a restaurant and I can't manage the cut verses the hours I'll do. 13.5k from 18k isn't cool. I'll still have to pay out in taxes and insurance and rent. I've texted Kevin at the Muse and I'll just work there until Feb as planned if Franco doesn't get in touch today. From Whitehall Waterfront to your stomach.

It is a while since I covered myself in Blog. Recently (12/11/2010) I started working for Natalie, Geoff and Cath @ Millie's Fresh & Organic as their resident chef Monday to Friday. I am trying to develop the scope of the kinds of food they have offered and create a trade with a more diverse clientele than I do currently. Tucked away on Vicar Lane , Leeds the emporium offers a great selection of vegan, organic, ethical and fair trade products from both local and far away. From this variety I am able to create a vast array of balanced salads, interesting and value-for-money meals, vegan and raw cakes, homemade and inspiring dainties, etc, etc (you'll just have to pop in on any day to see what I am working hard to produce). I find myself back @ 97 Whitehall Waterfront 4 years on from when I went off to YHA Afriston and a few years with the YHA and a chance to develop some skills with Jean-Claude Etile and other important persons in the vast world of catering. It is qu...

Halloween and piles of disgarded Cassette Tapes.

Image
2nd year of the Jones' Halloween was a good affair judging from all the many photos that have appeared on Facebook since last night. I thought it was a very Americanised product when I was a teenager and never ever had anything to do with it then. But now it gives free rein to self expression with a box of pastels and an afternoon. I went to the party as a green bloody mouthed Zombie ate loads of very good Stilton and Broccoli quiche and drank a fair quantity of cider. I crashed out around there and got back for about 10am this morning. I do hope this is a routine event, but Sarah and Dan both want it to elsewhere next year as it's not nice clearing up the day after a party. Today I've thrown away a load of Cassette tapes that were just getting dusty in the box they've been in the last dozen or so years. Couldn't quite throw all the original ones just the copied(dubbed) ones. I wonder if they get melted down or recycled? Recycle This Free Cycle I've also g...

Journey to the !Edge of the World!

I've had this feeling in the last year that my life is going full circle. I'm filling all the gaps from the past. I guess Facebook makes this very possible. But I has made me think I may only have another 16 years left if I keep filling all the past gaps in. How do I explain this simply? I had a job trial and I chopped parsley and peeled potatoes: which i last did on that scale in 1989 at the Linton Springs I hooked up with an girl I knew in Newcastle and haven't seen since 1995 who is in Canada now: Victoia Jolley . I went to Harrogate today looking for work and found the place very autumnal and most of the town had a power outage, but got a Job trial at the Old Swan ; I was very very drunk here in 1995 (I woke up in a room in the hotel without a clue where I was and remember the old radiators in the room were so so baking). I got so drunk with Richard Smith from ROCOM that night! Was a good laugh really. ROCOM had some fun times, apart from David Swinnerton being a TWAT...
