Rijeka and out - No moral mosquitos
Trip to Rijeka on my last day in Croatia return trip 30kuna. Fantastic: a city. Free wifi in the main shopping area.
Went to main cheese, meat and fish market and perused food sold therein.
Ate at a local bar selling fish direct from the next door market:
Konoba Fiume.
Pišmolji Whiting.
Inčuni Blue anchovies
Blitva swiss chard. 35kuna. Yippee.
Saw so many fishes in the Mrtvi Kanal on the way through to Titov Trg. Huge too.
Walked up 450 steps; far too many and monotonous at the same time, up to Trsat which has Celtic roots.
I was swearing and sweating at the conclusion. Met two obviously unCroatian girls from Nyborg in good old Denmark: body language, going to Split via same route I took to come here. Looked at the view and then descended for a n°32.
Black cat slinking through a locked iron gate and old man to walk up 450 steps with shopping who can see the funny side of the task in hand!
I claimed to gave seen the most attractive girl on all my travels in Croatia. Which I think was a true comment to make. She seemed very happy with the honesty, but also with the complete dispassion I stated this fact. Saw her both directions on the n° 32.
Back at mala krčma Skalinada and being chased by neurotic mozzies. Only female interested in me are blood suckers.
Good last day before back to western Europe although historically Rijeka was an Italian border town. Fiume the river and Sušak is Croatian south of the river.
Shaved off my 2 month wowzer. Was getting too much food in it. I'll be a shock when I next view a mirror. Last few months I feel I've aged a bit and look more close to banal 40. Clean but crinkly.
Experience tells me eat as close to the produce as you can. If it's come many miles it'll be stale, expensive and small. The stalls only sell what they grow locally. The local olive oil is too expensive considering it is made in Istra. The wine from any vinotecko is the best place to buy vin de table or from old guys with the wisest of knowhow; if you're lucky.
