Thirty-two. A tad political.
If it is immigration which is at the heart of the question for the English surely that is the problem which needs addressing, and not membership of the EU? How have mass swathes of Middle Eastern and North African got anything to do with being in the EU. It seems to me the UK suffers from guilt for the Empire and how it categorised most of the pink on the map as "savages" unable to run their own affairs, like a meddling auntie we see ourselves as perfect, flawless, doing everything absolutely positively, but unselfconsciously showing our horrendous bloomers whenever we sit or bend over. My simple answer is to turn the concept of Bigotry on its head: are not foreign nationals who have failed to integrate not bigots - they simply wish to have their cake and eat it too. If the NHS, social services, Benefits are at full stretch the root problem is this sense of guilt which leads to a disproportionate sense of responsibility. We are not responsible for a badly, arrogantly run, Empire and the world we meddled in. That was clearly during a time when the Monarch had a "yacht" the size of a small liner with which to promote "Britishness" as the only model of success, ironic seeing that during the post world war years we have literally pulled the work from under the feet of vast swathes of the post-industrial North, Wales, Scotland and Cornwall and sent the means of production to literally the ends of the Earth - East Asia. This same problem has also occurred world wide simply because money needs more money and the cheaper the labour the wealthier the banks get. Can we not come back to sense and see that the problem really is simple? Stop meddling in all affairs in other states, no matter how much guilt we feel, or see it as a mistaken course for the people elsewhere, things still naturally need to take their course. There simply isn't a straight road for any part of any civilization to follow into some perceived paradise. The paradise will only appear once we are all their together through our separate ways. Another part of the solution is to allow all foreign nations in the UK a route back to their homelands and zero asylum, for no matter any reason, allowing those countries to find their own solutions to their own crisis even if it means those countries destroy themselves. This has happened in Europe on numerous occasions, and I see it clearly as part of our evolution as a people, that eventually we stop killing when all that want to kill are dead. It might mean that there are no humans left alive at that point, but that too could be evolution?
We in the UK are not guilty or responsible for anything other than our own failures to help ourselves at times of difficulty and look elsewhere as a scapegoat or a means to make more money.
If you question my compassion I state I have compassion for the completely innocent ... The animals who we forget in our haste to obliterate each other. The young calf choking to death on a forgotten plastic bag or balloon... This list of error is at least seven billion long as we have all realistically sinned against our fellow creatures and the earth on which we are sustained.
Return all foreign nationals to their homelands, so they can enjoy the fruits of their own country, in harmony with the earth and remember the landscape and hear the song of the birds which always will bring them home.
Enough with this tower of Babel.
